Este projeto marca para mim um momento de despedida da cidade de Fortaleza, ao qual morei entre 2012 e 2017. Através de reflexões que pensam o meu lugar enquanto emigrante do interior do estado para a capital em busca de estudar, conseguir emprego - processo comum para diversas pessoas que vivem no interior dos estados no Brasil - acabo descobrindo sobre o surto de varíola que rondou o Ceará por volta de 1878. Nesta época uma forte seca motivou a movimentação de cerca de 100 mil pessoas para a capital, proliferando e aumentando o surto para tamanhos desastrosos.

Em 1994 a companhia de água e esgoto do ceará descobriu um vala abandonada repleta de ossos no jacarecanga, o bairro foi o primeiro bairro nobre da cidade e a ossada foi identificado como sendo justo desse momento do surto de varíola.

Motivado por esses acontecimentos surge o projeto jacarecangoscópio, nome que vem do bairro jacarecanga, que tem esse nome devido ao rio que corta o bairro e que hoje é um grande esgoto a céu aberto.

Através do gif e de um trabalho voltado a ficção e performance, crio um monstro que surge do rio e é resultado do lixo, do esquecimento, da dor e da doença. O monstro percorre o bairro em seus pontos principais.

This project marks for me a farewell moment from the city of Fortaleza, to which I lived between 2012 and 2017. Through reflections that think my place as an emigrant from the interior of the state to the capital in search of studying, getting a job - a common process for several people living in the interior of the states in Brazil - I ended up finding out about the smallpox outbreak that surrounded Ceará around 1878. At this time a severe drought motivated the movement of about 100 thousand people to the capital, proliferating and increasing the outbreak for disastrous sizes.

In 1994 the water and sewage company in Ceará discovered an abandoned ditch full of bones in the jacarecanga, the neighborhood was the first upscale neighborhood in the city and the skeleton was identified as being just from that moment of the smallpox outbreak.

Motivated by these events, the Jacarecangoscope project arises, a name that comes from the Jacarecanga neighborhood, which is named after the river that cuts through the neighborhood and which today is a large open sewer.

Through the gif and a work focused on fiction and performance, I create a monster that arises from the river and is the result of garbage, forgetfulness, pain and illness. The monster runs through the neighborhood at its main points.
